Prayers for those caught up in terriblelandslide.
Churches across the Diocese of Chichester are offering prayers and intercessions for all those caught up in the aftermath of Sunday night's shocking flooding and mudslide which has resulted in an increasing number of people losing their lives.
The Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, said today that he was praying for those realising the enormity and horror of what had befallen this community. More here

Partnership looks to grow church engagement
The Diocese of Chichester has joined up with The Children’s Society to help parishes grow church engagement within their communities. The Children’s Society has a wealth of experience and resources to help churches look at innovative ways to engage in mission and outreach to children and families. Archdeacon Fiona has been working with the charity to deliver a workshop addressing the opportunities. Register for this important workshop here

DAC Roadshows
Churchwardens and clergy will have received an invitation to the DAC Roadshows. The theme is Fundraising for church building projects. Dates, times and venues can be found here

Silver Sunday
This is an opportunity for all community buildings and in particular village halls to be part of a national event on 1 October celebrating older people and helping to tackle loneliness. Hall committees simply need to register events taking place in their halls that are free and welcome older people or they could, of course, organise a special event.  Take a look at the Silver Sunday website. https://silversunday.org.uk. to find out more.

Engaging Christianity
As a partnership between the Diocese and University, a series of modules are available for local delivery in parishes. Spirituality Adviser Andrew Mayes has written three on Engaging Spirituality: classic sources; contemporary issues; spirituality and mission. Ten units in each - choose what to use - to stimulate and resource spirituality. Living Faith - developing your discipleship
The Department for Apostolic life has launched a new discipleship course entitled: ‘Living Faith.’ The course is for lay Christians to find and develop their gifts and explore what discipleship and ‘calling’ means for them.  A PDF of the Living Faith Course can be viewed and downloaded here

Work is currently being undertaken to revamp and refresh A Church Near You. Please take note that parishes have been advised if they have not logged on in the last 12 months their registration will expire.

 
 
 
2017 Diocesan Harvest Appeal
Rebuilding Lives: Encouraging Hope. Please help us with this year’s Diocesan Harvest Appeal as a part of your Parish Harvest Thanksgiving. We are enormously thankful to all the parishes which supported last year’s Harvest Appeal. Materials to support the appeal will be available and sent out in early September.

Celebrate International Day of Peace at Chichester Cathedral
Live Better Together. The International Day of Peace observed every year around the world on 21st September. The themes of peace and reconciliation will inform all activities on this thought-provoking and inspiring day.  Within the Cathedral on the day there will be a peace trail and opportunities for candle lighting and prayers. A practical training session led by Archdeacon Fiona Windsor and Canon Rebecca Swyer to help you:

  • Understand the appointments process for parochial posts in the Church of England
  • Discern where God might be calling you to serve next
  • How to read parish profiles effectively
  • Complete application forms well
  • Hone interview skills – including dress and body language

Sussex Gospel Partnership
Leaders Training Mornings aimed at resourcing church leaders who are involved in the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

Year of the Bible Read-a-Thon
Marking the Year of the Bible, St Nicholas Saltdean is holding a 'Bibleathon' between 25 and 29 October, ending on Bible Sunday. A team of twelve volunteers will read the whole bible, out loud, in the church; there will be displays and refreshments throughout the 4 days. The participants will be sponsored and individuals can buy a ten-minute slot if they wish to be involved. Proceeds will go to; Benin Christian Support, Emmaus UK, Hove & Adur Sea Cadets and the parish sound system. Details on the parish website or contact frjim50@gmail.com

Pilgrimages to Chichester Cathedral 
A Pilgrimage programme has been planned for the Diocesan YEAR OF PRAYER 2018. As part of this, there will be Pilgrimages from each of the four Archdeaconries to Chichester Cathedral. Details are being finalised and will be communicated in due course. Dates here
 
Chichester Diocesan Holy Land Pilgrimage 
2018 is designated as a YEAR OF PRAYER and pilgrimage will play a full part throughout the year.  The Bishop of Chichester will lead pilgrims to journey and pray with him in some of the holiest places associated with the emergence of the Christian faith. 25 Oct-1 Nov 2018. How to book  here
